GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ advises Vion Food Group (Vion), a leading international producer of meat, meat products and plant-based alternatives, on a principal commercial agreement with Group of Butchers, regarding the sale of its Food Service Business Unit.

As a major part of its strategic realignment, Vion has reached a principal commercial agreement with Group of Butchers regarding the sale of its Food Service Business Unit. The corresponding agreements have been signed on 13 June 2026. The intended transaction is structured as a share deal and includes Vion Food Service Holding GmbH, Salomon FoodWorld GmbH and its subsidiaries, including the production facilities in Großostheim and Holzwickede. The transaction remains subject to antitrust approval as well as other customary closing conditions. Closing is expected within the coming months.

Over the years, the brand Salomon FoodWorld has developed into a fast-growing and highly successful business with market positions across multiple European countries. Together with Group of Butchers, an internationally established food company with extensive expertise in artisanal food production and strong relationships with leading retail customers, the partnership creates a strong platform for continued growth, operational synergies and development opportunities for employees, customers, and business partners.

"This transaction brings great value to Group of Butchers, while providing Salomon FoodWorld with an excellent platform to continue its successful growth journey. Upon closing of the transaction, Vion will have completed the final major step in executing its German portfolio adjustment announced two years ago, while further strengthening its balance sheet. Vion's full focus is on Netherlands-based farmers, operations and chains, serving national, European and other export markets", says Tjarda Klimp, CEO of Vion Food Group.

The transaction is part of Vion's stronger focus on the Benelux region. GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ has provided comprehensive advisory services over the past two years in connection with Vion's strategic realignment. The sale of its Business Unit Food Service is the fourth transaction advised by GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ for Vion in 2026. Most recently, the firm advised on, among other things, the acquisition of the Waldkraiburg site by US-based OSI Group, the Crailsheim site by Boeser Frischfleisch GmbH  (see our press release dated 21 April 2026) and the acquisition of the Buchloe site by Irish ABP Food Group (see our press release dated 4 May 2026).

Vion is an international food producer with production sites in the Netherlands and Germany and sales offices in several countries worldwide. In 2024 Vion achieved with 8,383 employees a turnover of EUR 4.6 billion.
