Short Profile

Maximilian Schoone is an associate at GLADE MICHEL WIRTZ in the COMPETITION practice. He advises German and international clients on issues relating to German and European antitrust law.

Maximilian Schoone studied law at the University of Bayreuth. His studies were funded by the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes). Maximilian Schoone passed his First Legal State Exam in 2018. Following his Second Legal State Exam in November 2020 he earned his doctorate with a dissertation on a topic in legal theory.

Maximilian Schoone enjoys to spend his leisure time with family and friends. In addition to his athletic endeavours in CrossFit, Maximilian Schoone is passionate about philosophy and literature.

 

Experience and Matters

Maximilian Schoone's professional experience includes, inter alia, the following matters:

  • Litigation: Advice on defending and asserting (in and out of court) claims for damages arising from antitrust violations, with a focus on active representation, for example in the antitrust cases technical building services (on behalf of Siemens Energy and an energy group), Copaxone, aluminium forging, steel forging, stainless steel, and heavy plate. Defence, for example, in the antitrust cases beer and drugstore items.
  • Representation in cartel investigations: Representation of companies before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission as well as before national and European courts; for instance, representation of Deutsche Post AG in an administrative proceeding before the Federal Cartel Office relating to postal consolidation, and representation of a Bundesliga club in the so-called "50+1 proceedings" before the Federal Cartel Office.
  • Internal investigations: Advising on, managing, and conducting data collection, review, and evaluation within the scope of internal investigations.
  • Cartels: Advising on the design and implementation of distribution systems, including in the automotive sector, for example in connection with directed-buy-structures, cooperation between competitors, and more generally on compliance structures in various industries.
  • Abuse of dominance: Advising dominant companies on questions relating to the prohibition of abuse and discrimination, in particular with regard to conditions management as well as access and supply claims.
  • Transactions: Advising and representing companies in the preparation and execution of merger control proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission, as well as in German and European investment screening proceedings.
